You could always find one that eats frozen foods. Unless you plan on plucking him from the ocean, then you could just buy reef pods.

yea im gonna really shoot for one that eats frozen foods but just incase he likes the thrill of the hunt,ill be prepared.

lol. i just noticed that my aquarium is infested with pods! but that makes me even more frightened because if i happen to run out, wouldnt he be spoiled just refuse to eat prepared food?

my mandarin doesn't eat frozen foods and just rummages around my tank. My tank was about 7 months old when I got him and I was just as worried as you are and he has survived. There were times when I was worried he was getting too skinny, but the older my tank got the fatter he got. I have tried dosing phyto as well and that seems to help.
