Ballasts

REALLY need to trash these Frankenstein ballasts before they start a second fire in my cabinet. I am using 2 of my 3 175W MH bulbs. Am trying to weight the pros and cons of electriv vs. magnetic.

Magnetic = longevity, reliability, cost less to purchase but cost more to run.

Electric = quieter, lighter, smaller, cost less to run, dimming options, but cost more to purchase.

Living in a state where Mary Jane is legal, I have multiple ballast options for "grow lights" :mrgreen: But I have no idea what may work for my setup. HELP!

I would personally go with the electronic ballasts.

BJ, do you use electric ballasts? If so, how do you like them?

I don't run MH lights, I have t5, but they are run on electronic ballasts. I am just saying electronic ballasts have more benefits IMO than magnetic ones.

Mostly, less heat and less noise. Less heat means less likely to cause issues.

So, can I use a ballast that is used for "grow lights"? There are so many available on CL, but I don't know if I can use them for my tank.

An MH ballast is an MH ballast I would assume. I would think if you got one sized for the bulbs you are running, it would work if properly wired. But I am not 100% sure.
