Banggai Cardinalfish Unable to Handle Regular Current

Dog Person in the Water
I've had my Banggai, "Baby" (see my signature for explanation), for about two months now. (S)he seems happy enough, eating, swimming, pooping, and generally being a fish.

However, he's unable to handle the current in my BioCube, so I've had to cover up the powerhead so that it is diverted. As a result, unattractive detritus builds up, and I'm afraid that I might lack the current for additional corals and fish.

I've tried turning up the temperature to 79 F and feeding small meals twice a day, but he is just as small and weak a swimmer as before. When I rearrange my tank in a month, should I just make a few caves for it to linger in and let the powerhead function fully, or would that be too cruel? Any suggestions? :/
