That is indeed a canister for carbon and phos removal. Altos got it right its in the greenhouse. Bad idea for future reference, too much sun and too hard to regulate the temp.

I am sure your skimmer is bigger than mine and therefore smellier, but I have never had a problem washing my AquaC Remora cup. I get my hands all up in it.
