hey guys i have a few more newbie questions for you, what is the best protien skimmer i can get as well as a sump, each need to be suitable for a 55 gallon, thanks guys :)

The best thing you can do for a sump is to make your own from the biggest tank you can fit under your stand. If you're not sure how to, you can look at all the threads in the DIY section. As far as protein skimmers, one of the best skimmers for the money are the octopus skimmers, especially for a tank your size.

What's your budget for the skimmer? You can spend anywhere from $100 to $1,000 for a skimmer.
I agree with Brain on the sump. Measure and see what the biggest size tank you can fit in your stand and just buy some plexiglas and make your own baffles.

I think most people on a budget would recommend the Reef Octopus. Thats the one I almost bought. Or you can look at building a Algae Scrubber in the DIY section on this site, its at the top. I use one and swear by it.
