Bigger Skimmer vs More Sump Water volume?

Hi all,

Here is the dilemma....
Trying to decide between 2 skimmer. Vertex In180 and the Vertex 250. IN180 is rated 100-180 gallon, IN250 150-250G

The problem is the In250 is crazy tall at 31.5" tall. With the room in my stand....(stand has 32 3/4"clearance) I would have to put the skimmer right on the bottom of the sump. Giving me only 8" of water....

However.....

If I go with the IN180 it is only 24" tall.... so I can place it on a 6-8" riser giving me 12-16" height of water volume.

Theoretically on paper, both skimmers would be fine for my system.. lets say total of 150G. Would you assume the specs are correct and go for the smaller one? or be more cautious and go for the larger skimmer sacrificing water volume of the sump.

Ya, that's pretty tight. And you never know... might have to get the skimmer into deeper water and you won't be able to. I'd go with the smaller one of the two if you are set on getting the vertex.
