Bleaching out old Sump

How safe is it for me to bleach out an old sump/mag7 bump/return lines? I got a sump for a decent deal but it was VERY dirty. I tried using vinegar to clean no go especially in the return line. How long should i run fresh water thru it before i setup the sump?

use 1 cap full of bleach per gallon of water and then once its done rinse it VERY WELL with water to get the bleach out

Others may disagree, but I think it is fine to use a diluted bleach solution to clean your equipment. Just be prepared to rinse the heck out of it after you are done. I would rinse it until there is no more bleach smell, and then I would rinse it some more, and just when you think your done rinsing, rinse it again.

pour a bunch of vinegar in there. let it sit.

And when you think you've got it rinsed good,rinse one more time with a dechlornator added to the water just for good measure.
Vinegar works good to,but its a lot slower.

Yep, bleach will work fine, just dillute it, and after you clean with bleach, clean it with vinegar, and then rinse very well.
