Boiling my Rocks....

185 F for 15 minutes will basically sanitize the rock, which should also be out of the normal range for most living organism that arent thermophilic, which arent going to be in your reef tank environment anyways.

yes Biff, i just cleaned my tank. I have spent like 6 hours on it today, doing differant things. Reconnecting with my kids.

I didn't take the time to read thru this whole thread, but I can't actually believe someone would buy live rock for $5-$7 per lb then destroy it by baking or cooking it. I guess if money is no object it's fine.

In prthd's original thread about "cooking rock" (https://www.livingreefs.com/cooking-rock-t30841.html) I explained what it really means. All the pests you talk about need 3 things to live. Water, food and light. If the method I explained was used, the rock would still be alive and the pests would be gone. All it takes is time.......but to each his own. ;)

I ended up boiling nearly 600 lbs of live rock a few years ago -- every inch of them was covered in majano. The majanos seems to survive just fine without light, as I had tried keeping them in sealed containers already. Some of them even survived the boiling. I posted pics to prove it. Those things can be bullet proof.
