Brain Coral placement

Today I just got a brain coral from the LFS and I was wondering about the placement. Right now I have it in the substrate, but I looked online and saw that it should be placed in the middle to top of the tank. I have a HO t5 fixture with 2 10K bulbs and 2 actinic bulbs and a led stunner strip added on. Will it be ok on the sand

I've actually always read that brains do best on the sandbed. Mine are on the sand, and are fine. I run T5s as well. Good luck!

I believe it depends on the type of coral. There are a lot of lps corals marketed as brain corals. Open brain, with large fleshy polyps (trach) types do like to be placed in the sand bed. Maize brain and other favites (sp?) can be placed on rocks.

ive had 2 and one preferred the sand bed while the other preferred the rock and actually grows out more than on the sand bed, just watch and see what the coral preferres

Err on the side of caution. Put it down low at first. Also keep it away from Green Star Polyps.

I agree with Biff it depends on the Brain, Some are supposed to be placed up on the rocks..

i have an open brain and a maze (closed?) brain on the sand. My favia how ever loves to be near the top of the tank.
