Brand new to the hobby and i have a strange visitor in my tank

Hey guys, im brand new to this hobby and trying to build my way up to adding reefs, right now i have a small 37 gallon tank with live rock a star fish, a few crabs snails and a few damsels. I noticed when i came home from work i have something else in my tank after having it for about 2-3 months. At first i thought it was a turnicate, and did alot of looking and thought it was until i got disperate and pulled some of the rock away, now im thinking its a worm? Any ideas, and if it is a worms how did it get there and is it a bad thing?
