Brownish film on water?

When I was changing the water before work today I noticed there is a very thin brownish film on the top of the water.

After pulling me arm from the tank when cleaning the walls, my arm also had a layer of the brown film.

Any thoughts on what it is, or what's causing it. I'll post water parameters tonight, ran out of time to test the water earlier today.

I'm wondering if my toadstool leather is causing some issues. It laid down a few months ago when it shed a layer of film. After the film had been shed and it was standing up again some crabs had a climb on it and since then it won't/can't stand with it's head pointing upward. I'll post pics of that after work as well.

A protein skimmer will take care of that, as well as some more flow at the top. Or as I recently learned, a paper towel at the top

You could try pointing one of your power heads up to the surface to break it up but I agree a skimmer will suck it right out and make your water look super clear
