on the bracket that holds the reactor canisters they are labeled gfo on the left and the one on the right is labeled carbon....but can i actually use gfo in the carbon side and carbon on the gfo side?

No, it has to do with the flow that carbon and GFO need. Run them in the order labeled on the reactor
