Reefer Madness
I just bought a Nikon D200 and a tamron 18-200 zoom. I'm looking for a decent macro lens or a good prime. Looking to take pictures of the coral, polyps, etc... really stunning stuff I would like to have. I'm not sure how to go about shooting through the glass, i'm assuming some sort of filter and get right on the tank?

I'm wondering what people's experiences are before i go out and spend 400 bucks on a new lens and be bummed that it won't work for my purpose!

Thanks!

Tamron 90mm 1:1 macro.
use your current zoom to make sure 90mm is long enough. It will actually be more like 120mm due to your cropped sensor. But not sure if your 18-200 is really 18-200 or 24-300 on the cropped sensor. So just make sure that anything between 90-120 is long enough.

You won't need a filter but you need to shoot as perpendicular to the glass as possible to be able to get sharp images. Otherwise there is something about the glass that distorts and won't allow the lens to focus.

Thanks D2 i was hoping you'd reply, i knew you'd have good info.

Saw your old tank today in Coral btw, still one of the nicest tanks i've seen.
