changing colors

if my blue damsels keep changing colors does it mean they are doing a mating dance or something

It could mean that they are scared. Or when they go into the rocks to go to sleep, they loose a lot of color for protection.

Yep indications of stress on the fish as well, not that they are just that could be a cause, if you know your water to be alright they should be fine and are just startled.

Damsels change colors for a lot of reasons.

My metallic blue damsel goes a brown colour when I put my hand in to feed, but it doesn't stop him almost taking the food oput of my hand. he soon goes back to a lovely blue after a few seconds. When I bought him and first put him in my tank, I thought they had given me the wrong fish, as he was a dull brown.
