We've been using chat more regularly now at nights...and lots of people seem to be having problems with chat lagging, or getting booted off. I don't personally have issues...ok, well, I do, but I believe my problem is on my end, which my laptop loads my flash stuff slow. But I know a lot of people would be grateful if you could look into it! :D

It's the internet's way of telling you to step away from the computer!

Or at least spend your time wisely... by looking at porn or something. :D

Why look at porn when you can make your own ;)

And time talking to other reefers and finding out they're even bigger perverts lin live chat is not a waste of time! It's educational ;)

If you come to chat more often you'll find an answer to that ;)

Yes, you must :) I normally log in around 8pm EST (and people start popping in around then, too).

I've had a look at the chat and it seems ok from this end as far as I can tell. Flash can sometimes be resource heavy, but there isn't a way round this, while still providing chat functionality.

Just so I can get an idea of numbers, how many others are having chat problems? Does it happen to everyone that uses it, or does it work ok for some people?

I'll see what I can do to make sure it works for everyone :).

I'm sure my issues are my laptop. Memory going bad. I wouldn't be surprised if it is the flash that's acting up. It's pretty random too. I think it's been better the past couple of days. Not as many people getting booted. But there was one night a few nights ago when many people kept getting dropped. Who knows what it is.

Thanks Ian. I think I have only been booted off once or twice. It usually works just fine for me except for the occasional freeze or delay of post.

It happens to me a lot. When people are chatting, the screen just freezes. Nothing I type shows up, and nothing anyone else types shows up. Eventually it logs me out...

OK, it looks like it's causing problems for quite a few people then. I've been doing some research on an alternative system, which has both advantages and disadvantages.

I'm working on getting this sorted for you all today, so hopefully I'll have some good news in a few hours with a working chat :D

I've now put a new chat system in place, but it's still being tested :)

Give it a go and let me know what you think :D

It's much more resource heavy, so I just hope it doesn't effect the server - I'll monitor it over the next few days.

Ian, thank you for the work, Im not a fan of the new system personally but the problems with the old system were pretty tedious.

Haha, I still don't like it but getting to talk with my reefing buddies makes it worth while...sort of. ;)
