Clams

Ok so I have my new 34 gallon with a 150 Halide over it and my mom loves the clams.

I know they need strong lighting and good water. But after 6 months or so would I be able to keep one if it was placed mid-tank or up?


If so what is required and what kind would you recommend?

looks like you have enough like to keep it anywhere you want. even on bottom.

Oh yeah, with over 4 watts/gallon of MH in that tank you could easily keep a clam. Mine seems to be doing great under only 216 watts of T5's in my 50 gallon.

well you should really go by watts/gallon just because some lights penetrate the water differently. i dont know much about clams, but if im not mistakin, you should be able to keep one under what you got

Congratulation on the tank.That is one kick-ass tank.

You can put any clam in there and in any location,even the sand bed.Avoid the gigas though,those are true giants.

You can even put a clam in sooner, no need to wait for six months. After a couple months it should be okay.

look to a maxiumus or crocea, both are pretty clams and do not grow super fast. the ultra-croceas are my favorite.

Clams are delicate,its stability thats important.Wait longer than right after a cycle.

it seems like I remember reading some where that clams like a little nitrates too.

that's an awesome tank by the way. u.w.w. I reallly like that halide fixture. it would look cool with a couple of those over my 55. how much did those set you back? If you don't mind me asking.
