Cleaning 5 gallon water jugs

Hello,

This is my first post, and I want to keep it simple to test it out, if all goes well I am in the middle of cycling a tank and have a question. But first for an easy question:

What is the best way to disinfect/clean this kind of container. I have about 8 of them that were given to me and some of them smell really bad. I have used a 10% bleach/water solution, and that got them sparking new again. I now have them soaking in freshwater with some amquel. How long should they soak, and is there any other treatment I should do to make sure they are safe and no longer have traces of bleach? I want to start keeping RO/DI water in them.

Hello,
1st off bleach will evaporate. If you leave them air dry for a couple of days.
2nd is that you can use vinegar for a disinfectant.
I use bleach for what it is worth.
