Is there any way to tell males from females on perculas or false perculas? id like to get a pair if possible.

I'm a girl.
They all start out as male, then the more dominate will switch sex and become female, I do believe. If they are young enough.

I would just look around for an advertised mated pair.

The only thing with that is you're going to pay a lot more money for a mated pair and unless you're trying to raise the fry a mated pair is kind of a waste.

Yeah, there's no need for a mated pair if you are not wanting to raise young. If you buy a pair and they are both small, one will turn into a female (big), and the other one will stay a male (small).
