Coralline algae under black light

grozier

something smells fishy
Why is it that only parts of this stuff glows under blacklighting? I was bored so I put my blacklight up against the tank to see what it looked like. The only thing that lit up was parts of the coralline and the nem.

Should add this rock is covered in coralline not just whats lit up.

I'm not sure if you know or not but black lights are very unhealthy for corals and anemones. They are different from actinics and put out a lot of UV rays that can and will bleach/kill them.

I'm sure that your short duration exposure was detrimental but I'd keep it to a minimum.

Sorry for the typo in the last sentence the was should've been wasn't.

It did make for a cool photo, looks a lot like the lumenbrite led actinic/moonlights if you enjoy the look. I've stepped away from the hobby for a year or so but they are cool if they are still available.
