Cover Algae with Plastic

Anyone tried covering algae for a week or two with a thick piece of plastic to cut off the light? How effective might this be?

Since this would in effect be blacking out all light from the algae I would assume it would be better for your tanking than comletely blacking out the tank

Of course, but I have noticed that if you overturn a rock the coralline on the underside does not die but then coralline is different then red and green algae. Marine biologists have found coralline growing at 600 feet where there is no light and can't explain it.
