Crab in a snail shell

So I came home today to see a red legged crab in one of the snails shell. I heard they might do this but my question is, "Where is the snail?" Rotting somewhere in the tank? Also do I need to get some empty shells to go in there?

Maybe you just never saw this crab before. But yes, you'll want to provide empty shells of varying sizes for when it grows. He probably hitch hiked on a rock.

I used to have a non reef safe white spotted hermit crab that killed a giant mexican turbo snail and wore its shell after eating, the thing grew to like 6 inches and managed once to flip over about 3 snails in the span of 5 minutes. hermit crabs can be scary predators.

Definitely ate the snail. I had a big hermit who would kill my snails just to eat them. He has since been banished to the fuge.
