Cycling question?

My LFS keep insisting not to run the protein skimmer until the cycling is completed in a new tank? Is that true?

True....until the cycle is complete,there is no nutrients to pull from the water.
When ammonia and nitrite reaches zero or when nitrates show up in a test kit,that would be good time to crank the skimmer on.

It's better to not run the skimmer during a cycle. Good advice from your LFS.

Skimmer not needed until something live is added to the system such as live rock, fish, or cleanup crew. hope this helps.
