I don't think it will be that much of a problem if you add 'dead' dry sand.

I don't see why it would as long as you're not adding live sand and you don't stir up your current sand bed too much.

Oh so I shouldn't add more live sand then? How should I go about adding it? I am I know I will have to raise the rock a little, and will I need to mix the sand a little?
