Diatom Algae After 1.5 Years?

    Every where i read says dinos grow on mutiple things walls of the tank and rocks. This grows only on the sand.

    mine started out just on the glass and no were else than my uv went out and it was every were

    yes it could be old bulbs shift to a red light that makes alage grow

    Do they literally turn red color? Because mine are still blue when you just turn those on.

    the blues will stay a blue i think but the day bulbs will turn yellow and red in color

    mmm, thats what my diatoms looked like >.<

    Back to the thing about silicates (that is the only thing I have read on that will cause diatoms)

    Don't they sell Silicate test kits?

    And if your LFS is experiencing the same thing and that's where your getting your water....(nvm that wasn't you who said LFS had diatoms >.<)

    Ack... I missed the whole page on bulbs when I posted xD
    Still applys somewhat tho ;)

    That looks like slime algae to me. It's not stringy, snotty and bubbly, which would suggest dinos. It's not dusty, which would suggest diatoms. To me, it's just plain old cyanobacteria.

    I think it looks like dino's, those are just what mine looked like before they were really stringy and bubbly. This is crazy, I don't understand why everyone is getting them.
