disappearing macro

I have an Aqueon model 2 sump and I use the middle chamber as a refugium. I keep macro algae in there but it disappears slowly over time and I need to buy more. Is this normal?

No. It should grow until you need to trim it back.

Do you have lighting down there? What kind? How much? How long do you run it?

What kind of macro algae do you get?

If it is dying, then it is releasing nutrients into the water. The exact opposite that you want it do be doing.

Last time I got a bundle of chaeto, calupera, and some red grape algae (maybe). I have a Coralife Refugium t5 12" light. I run it 12 hrs overnight.

I would just stick with cheato. Calpura can release spores into the water and take over the tank.

Is it gently tumbling or is it just a big mass of algae? If it isn't tumbling, you will need to manually rotate it every couple days. Otherwise it starves itself of light.

What are you parameters? You might not have enough extra nutrients in you system to support it. But with your stock list, I doubt this is the case.
