DIY Wet Dry System concerns

Well I did a little digging and it turns out my "180g" tank is actually a 125 gallon tank. =/

Recently visited my LFS and was in luck when I found a DIY tank that had already been partitioned into a wet-dry filter / Refugium. I grabbed the thing, got a few water tests and ran home to try and set it up.

I would like to know...
What kind of pump would you need to get water back into the aquarium?
How strong should this pump be?
Is an overflow box absolutely necessary?
What kind of set up tips do you guys have?

You'll either need an overflow box, or drill your main tank. Otherwise how would you get the water down to the sump? For the return pump it will depend on the flow rate of your overflow but, I'd say you're probably going to want something around a Mag9.5 or Mag12.
