Do I need to worry about larger mithrax crabs?

So, I came home the other day and found that one of my red mithrax crabs had grown and is now larger than my clown fish. Should I be concerned? He doesn't seem interested in the fish when they swim by ... but, I worry about what they do when I'm not watching.

I think you'll be ok as long as its fed good. I think most crabs can take a swipe at fish if they're hungry enough.

Yours isn't there yet.I hear when they grow bigger that they care less and less for algae and prefer meat.

Thanks guys, he's definitely got a ton of algae to graze on now, so hopefully he won't feel the need to go after my clowns

If you see him starting to grab at the fish as they swim by, that's your sign that he needs to go.

I've never seen an emerald actually go after fish.I have seen them threaten when fish got close,but I think it was more as a self defense stance than anything.

I agree with yote. He's safe. Cupped claws says it. Safe, safe safe. If you want to get rid of him send him to me. I love crabs! He's a beauty.

We have a fairly large one that reaches for our little goby all the time but never catches him.

Well, I came home tonight and I was checking out my tank under the moonlights and I noticed one of my nass snails shell and he was gone ... then a few inches from there I saw the crab making a meal out of another snail ... needless to say, he's now in the fuge.
