DSB vs MUD

Reefing newb
I'm in the process of installing a sump/ w refugium. My question is what I should use for substrate in the refugium. My 90 gallon reef tank has about 2 inch of SB, which is pretty weak. Should I use mud or DSB. What's the most effective nutrients e export substrate. I was also thinking of using both by installing a baffle and having half DSB and the other half mud. I don't know if this will work but I’m sure I'm not the first one to think of this. Any good informative articles out there on DSB vs. MUD?

I'm also thinking of not integrating bioballs to my sump, I have about 150 lbs of live rock should that be enough bacteria to remove bioballs?

Thank you-

I would go with the DSB and piles of small sized rubble for the pods.

Just my .02. I would like to hear others opinions as well though.

I will be using 1/2 miricle mud and 1/2 kent bio sediment or product equal to that. the mud and the bio sediment provide different things to the sytem. to answer your question i think any one item or combinatiion of will work. just keep the products seperated. let us know what you decide and keep us posted on results.
