I need help with NDB's Christmas present. A few months ago, the "open" button on our $24 DVD player broke, so NDB hammered a nail into the top of it to give us something to grab onto so we can force it open when we're done watching a movie, and it skips all the time, and now the remote broke... It's still hard to open even with the nail, I have to grab it against my chest and TUG on the damn thing.

Anyways, I want to get him a Blu-Ray DVD player that has wireless capabilities and can get Netflix.

I've been looking at a Samsung one that's on sale at Best Buy right now for $150 (this one: Samsung - Blu-Ray Disc Player with 1080p Output - BD-P1600).

    Any better deals out there?

I know. But I don't want a PS3. It's almost three times what I'm able to spend. We already have an Xbox that he doesn't use. He's not a gamer. He likes watching movies, and that's it.

Hehehe...I refuse to buy blu-ray. It will soon be replaced by players that use memory sticks, with even better quality than blu-ray. So basically, by the time you replace all your CD's to blu-ray, it will be obsolete more than DVD players because most people have DVD players already anyway cuz they're so cheap.

I didn't buy a CD player until a few years after the hype died down. Blu-ray hasn't been around that long and it's going the way of laserdisk already. JMHO

I have a blue ray....totally over-rated, waste of money. Same picture as my regular progressive scanning dvd. I prefer to spend the money on audio that shakes the couches!

You did realize that this is wireless ready and you'll also need a wireless dongle right?

    From the site:
"(requires wireless dongle, not included). Ethernet port for connection to your local network.

Just thought I'd mention in case they don't have a ethernet cable ran local to where the DVD player will be.

Yup, I have the subs and all. Sony amp runs it all. My brother in law just got a new tv and you cant even hear it, I told him he could even just add some comptuer speakes to it, they plug right in, and his wife was like"I'm not wasting money on tv crap" They got a real low dpi tv, picture is terrible, why bother?

Then my task is complete! LOL J/k Hey, if you get a PS3 and you actually play it, then good for you :) I'm a nintendo girl!!! I wouldn't buy a ps3 simply to watch blu-ray because they dont' have games I want.

And since I can buy a cheap sony or philips dvd player for $30 already, I don't feel like buying a bluray player. I'll wait for the memory stick technology ;)

Crutchfield, I wouldn't buy anywhere else, customer service bar-none and guaranteed prices....even fill out a credit app on the phone if you need...

    Crutchfield.com - blue ray players
