extra shells

When u have hermit crabs and shels is it Important to have other shels laying around on the sand or rocks so when they get bigger they can trade off. Or maby they do it for fun. But should I have shels laying around

yea i have a bunch of empty shells in the tank. If there arent any around, they will kill a snail for it.

They will kill snails regardless, but less so if they have extra shells laying around. Keeping hermits is a trade off -- they are great cleaners, but you have to not mind replacing your snails every once in a while.

It's kinda funny to see a hermit too small for a too large shell he has picked out. He almost gets lost in it and can barely carry it around. Be sure to have plenty of empties around for these peace loving creatures.
