Fancy Banded Serpent star

Angelajean

I know that I don't know
Ok so we have a serpent star that we have had for several months. He seems like he is doing well even though he is in the holding tank with the coral, hermits, snails, and a porcelain crab while we are waiting for the new tank to finish cycling. I read an article or perhaps a description that they need a mature tank because they need lots of detritus to feed on. We do feed that tank small amounts every other day.

Do I need to do anything special when we move the inverts over? Will he be okay? How do I tell if he isn't doing well?

He is very social and always comes out when we feed. We have never had to target feed him.

Thanks,
Angie

the serpent and brittle stars do fine in a new tank, its the others (like linka or formia) that require mature tanks. Sand shifting stars are also frequently seen and are not a good choice for 99% of the tanks out there.
