First timer here...starting with Saltwater!

Dear All,

I am new into this hobby and I am starting with a biocube 29" saltwater reef tank...sounds like setting up a saltwater tank is a bit confusing but I am taking it slowly. I have a question though...

In the bio balls chamber of the tank, I am planning on using live rocks. Would I need separate lighting for this chamber? I see that this chamber has a glass window on its back and there are some light fixtures in the market (coralife mini aqua light 11" to give an example) that could go against this glass window. Do I need to buy this?

Please advice...

Hello and Welcome!

Live rock wont need any light at all, but if you want to turn it into a fuge (to grow macro algae) then you will need some sort of light.

Thank you, little_fish for the reply and the welcome note. Do I need to grow macro algae in that chamber to aid the filtration process? Is that a necessity?

It is not totally necessary, but it will help your water quality immensely.

Most people put live rock on the bottom of that chamber and then grow macro in the upper portion.
