fragging/splitting

Most people frag coral when they start to impact coral around them. So, if your hammerhead is 8" across and it is starting to hurt coral in its vicinity, break a few branches off and get it back to like 5". That should keep it from stinging coral around it.

it depends on what kind of hammer: branch hammer or wall hammer? Also, what look are you going for in your tank? I like to let the corals get as big as possible before fragging them. My wall hammer is massive and I cannot frag it, so it will grow until it out grows my tank and I will have to figure out then what to do. I just fragged my branch hammer and it was because it was growing into the bubble coral. Up to you, good luck

Like others have said, you can split it whenever you want to, but larger pieces are worth a lot more than individual branches. When you do break of branches, break them off as close to the base as you can.
