What are the best corals to start with in a 30 gallon tank that are very colorful. I have strong lighting and I have never done the whole corals thing. Way back when I had anemones and feather dusters, but that was all. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Zoanthids and mushrooms are colorful and easy to keep. Do you like the look of frogspawn or hammer corals? You could try one of those.

Most LPS corals make good starters. Almost all soft corals make good starters.

By "strong lighting", what do you mean?

I have a metal halide lamp and several others that I could add on if needed. I know some corals and such need stronger lighting than others.

On a 30g your metal halide is probably strong enough to keep anything, and definitely strong enough to keep easier corals

Yeah, that's strong all right.
For now, softies and LPS should be good. Eventually you could SPS too.

You could also look at either a torch or frogspawn too...
