Do mandarins shed like reptiles? By the looks it seems as if my mandarin is "shedding".

- No they do not. They are bottom feeders that have a massive slime coat on them. More than likely it is a bacteria infection. If this is the issue, you will see them labor breathe or look like they yawn. This is a definite sign of infection because it's in their gills.

My camera broke last week….what a coincidence. The female with the "shedding" died yesterday AM. I had already started a medicated treatment in the water but she was already too weak. I'm still treating the male just in case (Lifeguard by Instant Ocean) and he seems to be doing well for now.
