I have the lights currently on my tank and the stopped working yet when i initially plug them in they will stay on for a few second then shut off. is it just the bulbs going bad or something else/?

I just had the same thing happen to me.. it would come on then go off wasnt sure if it was the bulb or the ballast if I turned the bulb it would come back on.. ended up being the bulb that was bad. try a different bulb in it that will tell you right away if its the bulb or not.. misread, its the whole fixture you meant.. usually when a ballast goes bad it goes completely..
