Hello All - Can you identify this?

Hello!
I am a new member to this forum but have been toying with a saltwater aquarium for about a year. My tank is progressing nicely and I am addicted to this hobby!
I am puzzled about a recent purchase. Yesterday I purchased about 20 lbs of live rock with some random corals on them and beautiful purple allege. The real surprise was when I put the rocks in the tank. Something came alive and started moving!

This is a large snail looking thing. I am interested in researching this thing to see if it is safe for my tank, what it eats, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Picture attached.

That's it for now; I look forward to checking out all the tanks and posting a few pics of my own.

That looks to be an abalone -- reef safe, algae eater. Congrats!

+1 Biff...that is an abalone. They eat all types of algae. Welcome to the site also, glad to have you.
