Help identifying please

    My friend noticed this in his tank and we are having trouble identifying it and finding out if it is harmful to the tank and if so what we can do to remove it. It looks to be a white cottony patch growing on his live rock. 1448904955439674951351.jpg

    Thank you, he also has some tiny, maybe 1\16 of an inch tubular brown things that are in the diatom bed. Any suggestions?
