I dumped about 50 empty shells in my tank - damn crabs killed each other anyway and never took to any of the empty shells I provided for them.
I hate crabs - but they are a necessary animal if you want a clean reef.

I have a few that are still hanging on in the display, but I'm not adding any more and when I get the chance, I throw them in the sump. I will use snails, fish, stars, urchins and shrimp and hopefully be able to get by without the typical army of hermits.

damn right when i shut off the light not even a minute, a crab runs and steals another crabs shell and he couldnt even fit it anyway!!
