that is the worst thing i have ever seen. I love how they still iron their clothes, lol whats the point. I bet the cure for cancer is somewhere in that house to be discovered.

It would take probably a million hermits & snails to clean that mess up.

    I've seen these...poor computer!!! LOL

Have any of you watched "How Clean is Your House?" on BBC? A couple of British ladies going around the UK and the US helping people clean up their houses (some are WORSE that the ones in the picture) and making them help clean up as well, teaching them tricks to cleaning stains and stuff along the way (they have some neat tricks!). The problem is that they fix the house, but not the psychology behind why it ended up that way to begin with. A year later, I bet those houses are just in bad shape.

I've known people living like that...my husband doesn't believe houses can get that messy and filthy. Those people don't see their mess. They choose to just ignore it because they get overwhelmed or just don't care. Sucks, but it's true. Watch 'Grey Gardens'.....those 2 rich ladies just ignored their deteriorating house!

I find the mental illness behind the mess to be the most disturbing. Pretty sad that someone would be so out of reality that they can live like that.

I could have that place cleaned up in a couple days. Park a roll-off dumpster in the driveway and start hauling shit out. Furniture and computer too.

    Okay, so it looks bad.

BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE THE SMELL! Hundreds of pizza boxes, soda cups and Whataburger bags? You know there's TONS of rotting food underneath those piles!

I have been in houses like that. I routinely have to go into condemned buildings or low income housing that is scheduled to be demolished... THANK GOD I HAVE A RESPIRATOR AND HAZMAT SUIT TO WEAR! Seriously. If we had to work in a house like that, my boss would be like, "Suit up. You don't know what's in there."

It is a mental illness. Hoarding is a form of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). My ex's mom was a hoarder. Her house was piled floor to ceiling with crap, with little paths carved between the stacks of crap to get from room to room. If a fire had started, there would be no chance. Fire departments usually won't go into the houses of hoarders because it's a huge danger to their own men. If you are a hoarder and you have a life threatening emergency, you are SOL.

That said, there is a difference between OCD and laziness. It looks like that woman suffers from both!
