is this what an algea bloom looks like???

Don't worry too much about testing for phosphates; the test kits that actually give accurate results for phosphate are expensive, so just run a GFO in a reactor and change it out once a month or so. If you have changed more than 50% of your total water volume within the last week I wouldn't change out any more water. Just let things happen and be patient, remember- nothing good happens fast in this hobby, lol.

well to update
still having this phytoplankton problem
changed out tons of water
even bought a canister filter and filled the top tray with polishing pads to help strain some of it out

funny story about that
i have the canister draining from the DT
but returning to the sump
well i decided to do a water change so i turned off my main sump pump and made a phone call while the tank drained to the sump
well the canister runs so quiet i forgot it was there and never turned it off
needless to say i pumped about 40 gallons of water onto my living room floor

its times like that that i need to just shake my head and go with the flow,,
even if its on my living room floor : )

thank god for hardwood floors

Zooto98, you could get some mollies in the mean time. Get them acclimated to the SG put five or six of them in there and make a little cash breeding them. Green water makes good breeding grounds.

ok we have strayed to far now:mrgreen:

i just want the green water gone

ill deal with breeding later

thanks for the advice though:D
