Does anyone know why mandarin fish blow dust-looking stuff out of their fin/gill area occasionally? I was just wondering its purpose...

Agreed, don't most pod hunting gobies and such take up sand from the 'hunt'?

Yep, my goby is hard at work too. Sifts through sand all day. It's the mandarin that's weird...just blows out a very fine sand occasionally. Must be leftovers like everyone suggests. :)
