Lens help

Hey guys just looking to see what lens I can get that fairly cheap for up close shots of my corals and things like that.

would a 50mm Nikon lens work ??/ I have a Nikon d40.

Let me know what you guys think.

Looking for something under 200$ hopefully.

Any lens should work ok. You want to increase the depth of field, so try shooting at F/9 Ishmael and a quick(1/100 plus) shutter speed. Try using the flash in different ways. I use a wireless flash setup above the tank

For real close-ups you want a macro lens. Best value for nikon is the Tamron 90mm 1:1.
50mm won't focus nearly as close as a macro.
You might be able to find a used one for near that price but not new.

I have heard of people using extension tubes on regular lenses as a cheaper option but I have zero experience with that.

And i never use flash. Kills the natural lighting/colors of your tank.
