Lifless tank: whats your take

So My roomate killed his tank because of parasitic infestasion. Now he wants to start with his old bleached rock and dried out sand. Hees thinking of circulating live water through for a period, then adding corals and trying to make it work with no live startup... What do you guys think?

I may be a little dense here but by live start up do you mean live fish to cycle the tank?

You can start a tank that way but, just adding water from an established tank won't cycle it for you. You'll have to add something like either fish food or a table shrimp and let it start to decay. That will get you started.

dont use any of the old rock or sand from theold tank or risk reinfection
