Lighting Schedule

I wanted to change up my white light schedule. I was going to run the blues all day but have the whites come on/off for a bit here and there to keep it a little cooler with the warm weather coming. To me, this would be like a cloud passing over the reef, which I thought would bee cool. My time has like a zillion digital settings on it so I can run it on and off several times a day. What you guys think?

The only problem I see with doing that,is the wear on the ballast and bulbs.
I think it will probably burn those out a lot sooner.
