Live rock

Hi, I live in south louisiana. My cousin offshore fishes for a living. When he found out I have a saltwater tank,he said he gets alot of live rock in traps or nets.He goes way out in the middle of the Gulf of mexico.I was wondering if it would be good rock. I read about west and east coast rock, and other types but never Gulf of mexico rock.

As long as it is keep in saltwater and not overheated until delivered and provided you can cure it on your own it would be ok, provided it is coral rock.

Thanks jhnrb,I don't know what kind or what it looks like..He knows less that i do about saltwater tanks.I'll tell him to keep it in water.Hey it's worth a try to see what he gets out there!!!!

live rock has been collected from the gulf commercialy since 1993 so if they do so can you, just watch for die off.if you would like ,theres a video at tampabaysaltwater.com about the live rock in florida thats collected in the gm just take a look at the aquaculter video (ok video).this might help a little
