I have a star polyp that had it's top snacked on two nights ago. Will the purple tubes regrow new polyps in time?

Two possibilities flame angel or starfish. It happened over night so I'm leaning strongly toward starfish. My flame stays busy all day snacking at algae.

lfs called it Cortez star. My research says its pentaceraster cumingi. No aquarium site I have found has them. the other names i found is cumings star and panamic cushion star. It's been a real pain in my ass.

Did it suck them up or what? I would have though that at night the polyps would be in and if something touched them theyd also pull in.

that wont stop them from eating the flesh of the coral, the purple stuff is also part of the coral and it isnt hard.

ok we'll that oart wasn't eaten just the polyps. I woke up yesterday and the main cluster of polyps weren't there. I tested everything and my water is fine. Could my new powerhead cause them to stay in?
