LPS is Large Polyp Stony coral. Like frogspawns, acans, etc.
SPS is Small Polyp Stony coral. Like montis and acros.

LPS look really cool and are generally very easy to look after where as SPS are all the very hard stuff that require regular calcium dosing. This means that they are for advanced and experienced aquarium users. :)

SPS corals are typically referred to as the "hard" corals since they look like sticks, branches and plates.
