Mag 12 is built like a tank and can't go wrong but it can put off some heat. Eheim 1262 is also a good pump and is the one I will vouch for.

Eheim. Quiet and built better than mag pumps. Mag pumps are cheap.
Just google and you'll see all the good reviews on the 1260/1262 models.

The 1262 ran my old 130 cube. Actually it still does with its new owner.
The old 1260 I've had for even longer is now running my mixing station.

Have you lost your mind? That Texas heat must be getting to you. Mag pumps are bullet proof! I have had my Mag 9.5's up and running continuously for 7-8 years now.

That being said, the Eheim pumps run much cooler in comparison, and use less energy to run. If I were going to choose a pump now, based on what I know, I would most likely go with the Eheim.

The Eheim compared to the Mag is like a Mercedes compared to a Hyundai....the mag will get you where you want to go, but the Eheim will get you there with amazing reliability and durability....and like mentioned above the Mags kick out a good bit of heat....

Heat getting to you as well I see.

Evefyone uses them because they are built like tanks.

Do they suck power like crazy.......yes.

Do they produce excessive heat......yes.

But by no means are they cheap, or buolt cheaply.

Again, if I was starting all over, I'd use an Eheim, minimum 1262.
