Are you sure you have low magnesium? Usually regular water changes with a good reef salt are plenty to replentish magnesium and strontium. If you do have low levels really just dosing a trace element of any type would be fine I would think. Many people will prefer and swear by various brands but all the big names are gonna be about the same.

I get the magnesium chloride hexahydrate, magnesium sulfate is just epsom salts. Chlorides are found in higher levels in NSW so its "safer". Either or is good honestly. A lot of times I mix mine together so not to overload the water with sulfate or chloride...

i use both mixed together i get it already mixed from bulkreefsupply for a bag and it costs about 10 bucks and makes a gallon of mag supplement

If you just need to bump up your mag, plain old Epsom salt (mag sulfate) from your local drug store is perfectly fine.

If you are dosing a DIY 2-part calcium/alk supplement, you should use a combination of both mag chloride and sulfate.
